UPDATE FROM THE PRES
Another good week for the Raiders just got even better with last nights news!
WOMEN’S MEDAL WINNER
The biggest result of the week was undoubtedly Sarah Hooper winning the inaugural HFL Open Women’s Medal for best player in the competition!
What a fantastic result for Sarah, her family, the women’s team and the club. Sarah polled 29 votes to win by 9. The club is so proud of you Sarah. You will be an inspiration for other young women to take up the game. Great stuff.
On Saturday we hosted the Preliminary Final at Callington Oval. It was a great day for the club with a good crowd and a bit better weather than when we hosted the GF last year!
A huge thanks to everyone who volunteered their time to help on the day; you are the backbone of our club. The HFL were impressed by how the day was run. Well done everyone.
Our Mini colts played Birdwood for a place in the Grand Final. The guys played some awesome footy and ran out winners by 83 points. Everyone played well and it’s the sort of team performance that is needed on Saturday in the Grand Final. Congratulations to the players, coach Anthony Borneman, and all the support staff for a great year. One more big effort to go!
The Iron Raiders played Kangarilla and showed plenty of early spirit. Eventually they were overwhelmed by a strong team in Kangarilla that will give the GF a real shake. Our guys never gave up and did the Raiders and Thunderers proud.
Our club is so proud of the efforts of everyone involved with the Iron Raiders this year. At times it has been difficult to support them as the games were often at a separate ground to our other sides. However you were never forgotten.
I would like to thank Ironbank Cherry Gardens Football Club, all of the people who coached and assisted and helped to make this amalgamation happen. I think it has benefited both clubs and also the lads who have been able to play footy and make some new friends. Good stuff everyone.
VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
As you saw on Monday night Andrew Frazer won SANFL Statewide Super Volunteer of the Year. So well deserved to Andy and Tanya who looked like they had a great night mingling with the stars and dignitaries! (See photos - thanks to the SANFL for some of the photos)
This is a huge achievement as Andy was up against some great competition for the top prize. Fraz receives 2 tickets to the AFL grand final, 2 return flights, 3 nights accommodation and gets to go in the grand final parade! Wow what a great reward!
This Saturday at Macclesfield Oval
8.30am Raiders vs Meadows
9.45am Gumeracha/Birdwood vs Kangarilla
11.00am Gumeracha vs Kangarilla
12.40pm Raiders vs Kersbrook
2.30pm Gumeracha vs Kersbrook
Good luck to our Mini Colts and B grade!
Let’s all get out on the Saturday to support our Raiders teams.
Please remember that no alcohol or glass is to be taken into the ground. I trust that all Raiders supporters will abide by this law.
GO RAIDERS !!
